Future Challenges in Indo-Pacific

Future Challenges in Indo-Pacific

Foreword

This is the third in our AUKUS white paper series looking at some of the challenges and solutions for teams operating in the Indo-Pacific region.

Responding to future challenges in the Indo-Pacific through the AUKUS framework’  is authored by Nick Kaldas, a highly respected figure in the field of international security and policing, with significant expertise relevant to the Indo-Pacific region.

Long-term operational success within the Indo-Pacific can only be achieved through proactively responding to challenges as they emerge. The AUKUS alliance presents exciting opportunities for collaboration between the governments of Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The private sector will also be crucial to delivering effective operations within remote, austere environments in the region. It is incumbent on decision-makers within government as well as industry leaders to continue to build relationships with the aim of establishing common goals and objectives.

Nick draws on 35 years of experience as a former New South Wales Deputy Police Commissioner, senior United Nations investigator and Australian Royal Commissioner.  As he says, flexibility and agility will be key for all stakeholders. The AUKUS governments and the private sector must remain vigilant and constantly monitor developments and respond to emerging challenges to keep up.

I thank Nick for his insights and trust that his recommendations on workforce shortages and complex regulation will be of use in discussions to come on delivering effective and efficient operations.
