Introduction to the Crisis

The Ukraine war has been ongoing since 2021, but the conflict was already building in the region back in 2014, where Ukraine shifted their political priorities towards Europe. Russia annexed Crimea, which weakened relations with Ukraine and increased tensions between the two countries. Whilst the crisis was intensifying, the pressures of the Eastern Ukraine conflict also contributed to the tensions, which then quickly escalated into the full war between Ukraine and Russia. The consequences of the humanitarian crisis resulting from the war have been severe, which has led to the need for stabilization and reconstruction efforts. From the displacement of millions of Ukrainians, thousands of casualties, injuries and deaths, the destruction of infrastructure and disrupted humanitarian access.
